The newspaper photographer has played an important role over the years, snapping visual images of Hamilton's important events, the historic buildings, the changing landscape and her people. While most images were published in The Spectator, many others were simply filed away until today The files contain such photographs as a raging storm on Lake Ontario, the final remains of the Hamilton House, a look at urban renewal and the formal portrait of city council, 1888. There are visits from the Royal Family, jubilation in the streets as the guns are silenced in Europe, ice cutters hard at work in the Bay and a series of fascinating shots of what Hamilton looked like from the air.
